Angarika Rakshit is a Development Economist, with research interests in issues of structural transformation, employment generation, and the political economy of development. Prior to joining IIIT Hyderabad, Angarika was an Assistant Professor of Economics at the National Law School in Bangalore, and a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Employment at Azim Premji University.

Angarika has a PhD from IIT Delhi and a MA in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her work focusses on understanding the processes of structural change that is unfolding in India, and what these changes entail for different social, demographic, and economic groups of individuals. Her doctoral thesis empirically examined the implications of the evolving structure of the Indian manufacturing sector in the 21st century. It addressed and engaged with three long-standing issues in the Indian manufacturing sector -- the size distribution of firms, the role of flexibility of Indian labour markets in employment generation, and the persistence of informality. In 2020, Angarika was awarded the Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowship in Economics, to undertake research as a visiting fellow at UMass Amherst during her PhD. As a post-doctoral fellow at Azim Premji University, she has been part of the teams which worked on the 2023 and 2026 State of Working India Reports.
